To improve your marks, and more importantly your learning, in the course, your focus should be on understanding, discussing, and actually practising the management ideas and strategies in the course. Here are some practical Concurrent Control (Monitor ongoing operations to make sure they are being done according to plan) information that will also help you on the Test on the Planning and Control and Organization chapters on Monday 14.
- Listen, contribute and respond (comment) to the Management Feedback Control (Take place after work is completed) information that I provide in class and on the Wiki, Twitter (#pcssboh4m), and this class Blog.
- Make sure your understand the Type of Organizational Structure (The system of tasks, workflows, reporting relationships, and communication channels that link together diverse individuals and groups) we have designed to Manage and deliver the conference. Think about our conference meetings and the advantages and disadvantages of this structure and compare your experiences to the theory in the text.
- Remember that we are at the middle of the Planning Process (setting objectives and determining how to best accomplish them) for our Conference. The difficulty we have in selecting a conference name is because we have not (at least publicly on the Wiki) finalized on all the workshop a mission (reason for an organization’s existence), vision (future that one hopes to create), theme, or objective (Identify the specific results or desired outcomes that one intends to achieve) for our conference.
- My Feedback (Take place after work is completed) and observation from "visiting" our class yesterday with Mr. Richea was that the Work Shop and C-Suite Teams are still in the Forming Stage (initial orientation and interpersonal testing) of Team Development. Perhaps it was a long week and time for reflection is needed?
- I look forward to each of you demonstrating your leadership (The process of inspiring others to work hard to accomplish important tasks) skills in the coming weeks as we plan (statement of action steps to be taken in order to accomplish the objectives) and begin performing (teamwork and focused task performance).
Please make a thoughtful and professional comment on this post that will improve your learning and the performance of our class team. Practice using your management terminology.
